Toţi politicienii vâlceni au eşuat în rezolvarea problemei autostrăzii Piteşti – Sibiu. De la Bucureşti s-a decis deja că această importantă arteră, care ar fi putut să scoată Râmnicul din izolarea economică la care a fost supus în ultimii ani, va trece foarte departe, undeva prin Ţara Loviştei. Autostrada va fi atât de departe, încât aproape că nici nu va mai conta pentru cetăţenii din Râmnicu Vâlcea. Și-așa durează…
Parlamentarii vâlceni, indiferent de coloratura politică, ar fi trebuit să se bată până la capăt pentru interesele cetăţenilor care i-au trimis pe lefuri de boieri la Bucureşti, timp de patru ani. Aceşti oameni au promis multe în campaniile electorale şi au făcut puţine spre deloc. Misiunea lor principală în Senat şi Camera Deputaţilor, pe lângă cea de legiferare, a fost să sprijine interesele Vâlcii. Nu exista lucru mai important pentru vâlceni decât ca viitoarea autostradă să treacă prin Râmnicu Vâlcea sau, dacă acest lucru nu era posibil, să ocolească vreo câţiva kilometri municipiul.
